Newhaven Primary school visits

On Thursday 14 May the museum was visited by over 60 members of grades 3-6 of Newhaven Primary School. The children were divided into two groups - 3/4 and 5/6. They all have IPads to work with. The 3/4 children did the Museum Detective Sheet as a work sheet when in the museum space, while the grade 5/6 worked in groups to make short videos of different displays in the museum. They alternated with being in the adjacent meeting room, where they watched the history DVD and then Christine talked to them about Phillip Island before electricity and plastic, using a hand operated mincer and silver plated 1890s toothbrush as examples. The children all behaved beautifully. Two of the grade 6ers gave us a lovely thank you speech to finish. Thanks to Bruce, Cherry and Graeme who answered lots of questions in the museum, and Christine who worked with each group in the meeting room.
