Phillip Island & District Historical Society

The society turns 50 years old!

Last updated on 13-Aug-17

A lovely and happy evening was had on Friday August 4 when 30 members and friends of the Phillip Island & District Historical Society gathered to celebrate our fifty year milestone. Our Life Members - Cherry McFee, Tim Patkin, Meg Davis and Alex Davis - were on hand to cut the cake. After secretary Christine Grayden gave the welcome and recognition of the indigenous owners, Bass Coast Shire Council Mayor Pamela Rothfield (a society member) made the opening speech and launched the night. The one remaining foundation member, Anne Davie, gave a wonderful speech, invoking scenes of island life back in 1967. Local islander Melva Smith had made us a beautfiul cake, and nibbles, wine and other drinks were enjoyed by all present, some plates being brought by members. Christine, Judy Gittus and John Jansson had been able to find some old and not so old photos to mount a display, and Cherry was able to identify a number of the members in one of the photos from the 1970s.Thanks to Christine and Judy G for their organisation of the evening;
