Our small society had a wonderful night at the Museums Australia Victoria awards on Wednesday July 26th 2017, where we were shortlisted in the three possible categories for us to enter. Our "History of Phillip Island" DVD was shortlisted in the volunteer museums projects award. Our cataloguing team of Judy, Elaine, Gaye, Bev and Cherry was nominated by the Victorian Collections team for the second year in a row, acknowledging the amazing effort these ladies have put in for so long. The team was shortlisted for the prize again. Our secretary, Christine Grayden, was shortlisted as volunteer of the year for the state. The awards nights are great because we find out all the wonderful things that other museums and individuals are doing throughout the state in the museums sector. Photo shows the society's representatives who attended the awards night, from left: Christine Grayden (secretary), Anne Davie (foundation society member and committee member), Elaine Alexander (cataloguer) and Judy Gittus (Treasurer and cataloguer). The team were delighted that the major award for large museums went to the Pauline Gandell Children's Gallery at Museum Victoria, Carlton, where the society visited on our museums tour earlier this year and had a wonderful time watching the many children interact with all the displays. Well deserved! Congratulations to the various PIDHS members who were involved with the activities for which we were shortlisted.
