Book launch French Island

Book launch French Island

Last updated on 15 October 2016

Four members of the society had quite an adventure on Sunday 16.10.16 as they headed over to French Island on the Corinella-FI barge, then were picked up by French Islander and author Angela Borrelli and driven around a bit of this large island (on the state's worst roads!) to the General Store, now run by Cr Claire Le Serve's family. There they had a wholesome lunch and picked up platters of sandwiches and cakes for the big event in the afternoon - the launch of Angela's book: "The Forgotten Island: and Oral and Social History of French Island". The launch was held in an old Thompson family home, Long Point, now a vinyard. Here is a photo of the old house, now restored, and a photo of Angela (at left) with Bruce Procter, Judy Gittus and Christine Grayden from the society. John Jansson took the photos. Thanks John. About 30 French Islanders turned up for this happy occasion, which, considering that only about 100 people live on FI, was a really good turnout! Congratulations to Angela for a great job on the book. The book is for sale through the society for $30 per copy (plus postage). The book is also available from "Turn the Page" bookshop in Cowes. The four intrepid society members were very lucky - they had just arrived back to Corinella on the barge and hopped into the car when the downpour hit! A most interesting day, especially for Christine who met many people featured in the book she had proofread
